Welcome to the original website of the Australia and New Zealand Emergency Department Airway Registry.

PLEASE NOTE; we have partnered with the Emergency Care Institute of NSW, part of the Agency for Clinical Innovation, in order to be able to deliver the project on the scale that we had intended.

The logistics of ethics approvals, site setup and data management are huge and we thank the ECI for all their help.

Successful airway management is one of the cornerstones of care for critically ill or injured patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The risks of intubation are known to be higher in this environment compared to the operating theatre, yet there is little published data on airway management in an Australian ED.

We should strive to make our first attempt at intubation our best and only attempt in order to minimise the chance of our patients' suffering complications.

Improvement in the process is clearly in our patients' best interests.

Regular audit should take place of airway management problems or events in the ED.

4th National Audit Project of The Royal College of Anaesthetists and The Difficult Airway Society 2011

We have created a multi centre database to evaluate what is current practice and to assess future developments in techniques and technology.
